Monday, August 27th – “Justice for Rachel Corrie” – Peaceful Demonstration to support The Corrie Family & RCF – JVP-LA & Occupy LA – Israeli Consulate, 11766 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA – 3pm to 6pm
After more than 9 years of struggling for justice for their daughter, Cindy and Craig Corrie are in Haifa awaiting the verdict of their civil lawsuit against the Israeli Ministry of Defense and State. The Corries are seeking long-overdue transparency and accountability for Rachel’s 2003 murder with a weaponized Caterpillar bulldozer as she attempted to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian family’s home in Rafah, Gaza.
OccupyLA and JVP-LA stand in Solidarity with Cindy, Craig, and the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice (RCF) as the verdict is announced next Tuesday, on the morning of August 28th.
We will gather for a peaceful protest to demand “Justice for Rachel Corrie”, in front of the Israeli Consulate, 11766 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, from 3pm to 6pm on Monday, August 27.
On 16 March 2003 in Rafah, occupied Gaza, 23 year old American peace activist Rachel Corrie from Olympia, Washington, was murdered by an Israeli military Caterpillar bulldozer driver.
Rachel was in Gaza opposing the demolition of Palestinian homes as a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement. Other activists who were with her said the driver of the bulldozer was aware of Rachel’s presence, initially he dropped sand and other heavy debris on her, then the bulldozer pushed her to the ground where it proceeded to drive over her, fracturing both arms, legs and skull. She was transferred to a hospital, where she later died.
On Tuesday, August 28, in the courtroom of Judge Oded Gershon, Haifa District Court, Haifa, Israel, the verdict in the civil lawsuit against the State of Israel will be announced at 9am (Monday 11pm PST).
OccupyLA and JVP-LA stand in Solidarity with the Corrie family, the Palestinian people, and all oppressed people of the world. We call for justice, equality, and respect for the human rights of all people, regardless of ethnic origins, religion, or political affiliation; we demand an end to the illegal settlements, blockades, and occupation of East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank; and we demand an end to the housing demolitions that deny Palestinians the basic human right of being secure in their homes.
